Engines undergo a lot of stress during their lifetime. And without regular oil changes and maintenance, they can fail prematurely, necessitating replacement.  Common engine issues include:

Severe Overheating: When an engine overheats, it can cause significant damage to critical components such as the head gasket, cylinder, and engine block. If these parts warp or crack due to heat, the repair costs can be so substantial that replacement is the best option.

Rod Knock: This occurs when the rod bearings wear out and fail, usually due to a lack of lubrication. Rod knock manifests as a deep rattling noise from the engine and signals the engine’s crankshaft and connecting rods are damaged. Like engine overheating, this internal damage typically necessitates rebuilding or replacing the entire engine.

Cracked Engine Block: The engine block is the backbone of the motor, housing the cylinders and their components. A cracked block can lead to oil and coolant leaks. Unfortunately, the repair cost of a cracked engine block is significantly more than most are willing to pay, making replacing the engine a better choice.

Blown Head Gasket: A blown head gasket can lead to serious issues, like coolant mixing with oil and excessive white smoke from the exhaust.  While a head gasket can be replaced, if the damage caused warping or cracking of the cylinder head or engine block, you’re likely better off with a complete engine replacement.
